Hello all, I have a 1966 Johnson 60hp v4. It did not have any prop on it when I got it. So after lots of frustrating searching I think I found what I needed...

Or so I thought.. I ordered a prop off ebay part # 379260 size 10x9/14. Got the item it is in brand new condition, part number and size is clearly stamped on the prop.

My problem is - Pin drive is correct. Size seems ok.. But the prop does not "mesh" with the lower unit. if that makes sence, there is no teeth on the shaft to mesh so to speak..

But the rear of the prop does not seem wide enough to go "onto" the lower unit. the lower unit has almost like a ridge that the prop is supposed to go around.

I have looked up the motor model number and it comes back as the correct motor, looked up the prop number and it comes back as the correct prop.

What am I missing here??

Re: Why is the correct part # prop not fitting my motor?

The OMC series of V4 motors built from 1958-1968 utilized three different gearcases: 1)Heavy Duty, 2) Standard Duty and 3) Electric shift. I first encountered the prop hub size question when a Johnson dealer sold me a prop for my 1962 Johnson 75 electric shift. The prop had a smaller hub than my gearcase and when I questioned it, I was told it was originally designed for the Standard Duty mechanical shift gearcase but would work on mine with no problem. I tried it and it was fine. Without knowing exactly which gearcase you have, I am guessing you have the same situation I experienced because it does look weird. Some pictures might help. Good luck!
