why my 1982 Johnson 90hp outboard stop when move to gear? I had trouble moving out of the dock, because my motor died after moving into gear. Idle was ok but i had to lift the throttle lever to give it some kick to higher and faster speed.

Sounds like you to take the carbs off and give them a good cleaning. Probably has some gunk in the jets. As a temporary fix you can always bump the choke/primer solenoid and it will probably pick up and go but again this should only be temporary.

It may be running on only 3 cylinders. Check spark on all 4 plugwires once the engine is well warmed up. If you have solid spark, then have a look at the fuel system.

Thanks to all who reply, Good news, my Johnson 90hp is now kicking and running with 100% reliability - I didn't clean the carp, just kept running it to warm it up and i guess it was sitting unused for a year so a bit choke up some where. But all is good, starts right up on first crank when i have it in high choke.
