Why so few responses to motor opinon question?

I posted a question about ppls opinoin on there fav. outboards or opinion on the most dependable motor under rsw21282 below and ask for your opinion(not argument) for a future buyer, i would like a variety of opinions.

It's sorta like asking boxers or briefs, I personally like briefs.
Seriously, Evinrude has been there for the duration, that has to say something.

I really doesnt matter a whit which outboard is most popular. All major OB manufacturers put out a fine motor. All, if treated properly will give years and years of service. Blue, red, or green?? Its all just personal preference.
Ok, so, I like Evinrudes, Johnsons, Mercs, Yammys, Honda,...............

Missed the post, but it is like a Chevy/ Ford question. IMO if I was to buy any older motor I'd go with a Merc or OMC. Late 60's thru late 80's I'd take either one. 50's - 60's OMC or any of their offshoots (Gale, ect.). Something that old I would even consider a Scott, they were good motors but parts are becoming scarce. Late 80's to present there are a few specific models that I have heard to avoid within every manufacturer. But for the most part today I don't think anyone make a bad motor.

Edit: I just read your ealier post and it opens up alot of questions.
1. Are you buying new or used?

2. How old are you willing to go?

One thing to consider is your controls. If the motor you buuy is not compatible with your current set-up it'll cost you more to get new controls and have them set up. Where do you live? Some states are outlawing most 2 strokes on certain lakes which limits your choices.

I kwow guys that will only run Mercs, everything else is garbage, I don't like Mercs, others are partial to Yamaha/Honda.

It comes down to what you can get where you live for what you can afford.

My Evinrude came with my boat, I didn't pick it but it sure helped get me to buy the boat.

Was a merc guy for years.Lots of years to be more exact,lol.Now i run and play with omc,why?Because of ease of mtc and avalibilty of parts.New ,i think almost any one is good today.

I've always had Johnson/Evinrudes, mainly because Mercs had the reputation of falling apart in salt water (1960's-70's models..). I don't actually know that that was true, but some guy on the radio told me that, so it must be true.

Buy a motor from Sears and Rowback!

I think the "force" is largely unpopular.

Growing up on salt water it was OMC for the work horse but the racers liked Mercs. "If you want to get there, Mercury. If you want to get home, Evinrude." However the Eastern Shore watermen loved those Mercs back in the 60's.

OMC went down and Yamaha became the new darling. Still is.

I have, or regularly use, 2 Yamaha's, 3 OMC's and 1 Merc. Except the merc isn't running.

So why so few answers? It's a pointless question.

What's the point. You currently have several responses and none of them are what you should base a purchase on. You have some personal criteria which we have no idea what they are. What type of boat, what you do with it, and where you typically boat are key factors in engine selection. To simply say -you want a four-stroke may not be a valid criteria for what you want to do and I won't get into why. So you see, "opinions" are like butts, everybody has one. There are many on-line test reports by various magazines and every boat and engine manufacturer has performance reports posted on their web sites. This is "real data"-- not just someones opinion.
