Why will my impellor not work????..

I have a 2.3 omc that is overheating at low speeds. When removing the pump, I noticed that the adapter plate that the impellor housing bolts to is cracked, ordered plate, impeller, gimble bearing and two new bellows. Replaced all. Now there is not any leaks from the pump. I still have the same problem. When I remove the water inlet hose on the t-stat housing, no water. If I put the muffs on securely, it works. There is not much wear on the metal plate or metal ring that are part of the pump assembly. Could this be my problem?? I am fresh out of ideas and would appreciate any ideas. Thanks, 1987 Larson Citation

oh sorry, did the rusty t stat first. It is new. The impellor hose can be removed from t stat housing before t stat, therfore I am not getting water to the t stat. Simply not pumping....

Hi there, had this same problem, i started to read some posts from this site about this problem so today i went down to the local repair shop, so he told me to take our air compressor and shoot some air into the hole where the water comes out. Take the small cap off, this is the cap that you can turn to direct the water direction you want at the back of the outboard, and give the air to it. We had some fine dirt come out of it. PLEASE try this before you go out and mess with your thermostat and your impeller. We took off the thermostat and there was nothing wrong with it, but its good to know how to check all these things.:)
