why would this happen to a 115 outboard

1991 mercury 115 .. This also happened to My old 125
The motor still runs good . Is that the intake manifold like car . Any suggestions will b apreciated thanks for looking

That looks like a rod hole from here or the rod put a piece of debrie out the front of the crankcase.

I have to agree. It looks as if you have slung a rod.. Or a piece of the rod cap.

Do u guys think they never changed the bearings . I did compression test all 4 @ 130

Looks like maybe the reeds spit a bearing or something Maybe the bolts for the reeds came undone and got wacked by the crank. It may be fixable

But it runs good :-(
Stop running it as its only running on 3 cylinders, the crankcase cannot pressurize with that hole so #4 cylinder is getting very little fuel/oil. Hole may have been there from first failure....
