what would cause number six cylinder on a 77 115hp inline 6 , cylinder crack on the top of cylinder..??

I am not sure I understand your question. Is the cylinder cracked? Is the waterjacket cover over the cylinder cracked?

The heads on that motor do not come off. The cylinder is one piece cast iron.
