I changed my lower unit gear lube,on my 1990 90hp Johnson this Winter, and today when I gunned it ,the lower unit would not shift into foward causing the engine to over rev. When I would put it back in nuetral and throttle slowly it was fine. Reverse is okay. I used Lucas Oil 80-95wieght. Any helpful info is greatly appreciated. Thasnkz Ruben.

Re: Why ?

Did you fill it from the bottom hole or the top? You always want to fill from the bottom hole. If you fill from the top you can get air bubbles and it won't be filled all the way.

Re: Why ?

Was the upper plug out and did you fill it until the lube ran out the top? Might sound dumb but I'm just checking.

Re: Why ?

You could try and change it again and check for any metal shavings in the oil. Also make sure to change the o-rings on the plugs.

Re: Why ?

Have you changed out the impellar? If so......I would check the shift shaft to make sure it is adjusted properly.........and take a peak at your prop hub too.

PLEASE in the future threads that you start............. Use an appropriate question/thread title instead of one word. It helps when people may be searching for similar situations. Thanks.
