I posted earlier, and checked the Coast Guard plaque on my boat, and the max. on my boat "2000 Tarpon Skiff" is 90hp. Why would a Johnson dealer ask me if I really wanted to put a 90hp 4 stroke on this boat, I gave him my reasons, but he didn't give me a reason why I shouldn't. Can somebody help me out here? 2 stroke vs 4 stroke I'm really undecided and don't know what to do. Thanks to everyone who answers.

Re: Why?

I guess its personal preference. If the boat can handle the weight, why not?

I drove 3 180C BlueWave's at a dealer meeting last winter (see report of Evinrude 90 at http://www.evinrude.com/docs/241000/004_US.htm# ) and I'm here to tell you the Johnson 4-stroke 90 gave the Evinrude a good run for the money and the 2-stroke Johnson wasn't even close. To be fair to the 2-stroke Johnson, I do have to say I don't feel it was set up correctly, it had an awful hesitation which in turn gave it a miserable hole-shot.

Both the 90 and 115 Johnson 4-strokes are extremely strong running engines and when set up and propped correctly are just sweet.
