When,if ever, did Alumacraft make a short boat like 12-13 foot with a wide transom? All the Alumacrafts I've had over the years have/had narrow transoms, still have my origianal 1957 F model 12 footer. I like it a lot but the transome is only 43'' wide. I have another brand 12' boat that has a 48" transom and it handles much better with bigger motors and I'm convinced it's the transom width or am I wrong? It corners-so to speek-much better.

Re: Wide Transom Alumacrafts

I believe you have that right. I have a Model E...nice boat, but even my 11 year old makes it tip when he's out fishing. Their Model R 11'7" boat is a much better boat. More stable, handles power with ease. 52" wide at the transom. One wouldn't think that those few inches would make a difference, but in practice they do. They made the Model R on the Model F width, so to speak. Just took a couple feet out of it. The R was made from 1949-1959 and then they made an R-6 and R-7 in the 1960s and early 1970s. All of 'em are nice boats.
