Last night was doing some touuch up paintng on my dash board and while it was out noticed the tack was in the incorrect position 1 instead of 2 (Faria) changed it and re-installed and naturally the idle rpm was way off started adjusting and got it to around 650 -700 so I wanted to make sure the timming was correct and this is when I noticed after putting it into base timming mode that there was literally no change after removing the jumpers to 12* it stayed @ 1* BTDC after numerous attemps and still no change I just moved it to 12* and took her out and it ran flawlessly as a matter of fact it never ran better hit 40 mph@ 4500 rpm (GPS) after replaying to the other post on erratic timming I looked @ my Actron timming light and ther is a chip out of the edge of the graphite contact could this be the issue and I just got lucky and hit the sweet spot on the dizzy location?? Any and all comments welcome.

Little chips don't cause eratic readings. the crack all the way through seems to really mess them up. My SnapOn timing light was "Borrowed" and it ended up cracked, Idle rpm was all over the place as was timing marks.
Why your timing didn't change may be because of not disconnecting it in the proper order, I don't know, but the point is, the EST distributors do jump around at idle. That is why the advance is stopped in order to set the timing (aka base timing mode).

I follwed the proceedure to a T from the service manual you so kindly provided some years back for free. Jumped the leads on the dizzy together and bypassed the shift interrup switch by connecting the lead on the harness together. I don't know but all I know is the issue still stands that she runs great and is sitting on 1*BTDC instead of off the chart @ idle. Thanx for the reply I will try antoher light tommorow.
