Wild RPM's on a 3.0 Merc...

My tach swings all over the place, at partial throttle it'll go to 6000 and the engine is no where near that high an rpm. This happens alot. At WOT it will read 5500 any place to look to see why this is occuring? Thanks Joe

Check connection to the tacho are clean and tight... Check battery voltage... Check wires on the coil are clean and tight....Check all grounds are clean and tight.... Check all pins in the harness connector are clean and making good contact........

Check that it's set for 4 cylinders on the back. And check your not grounding out someplace. Wheres it connect to the coil or anoide or whatever. Clean it the connection.
