There is a 1992 Caravelle with a 302cid 5.0 engine and from the picture looks like a Mercruiser drive. I looked it up and I think it is an Alpha I gen 2. Just wondering if it will bolt up to my 1973 MC 165 with maybe a driveshaft change or some minor changes. Anyone ever make this swap?

Nope,.... No 302s in Mercs of that vintage, if it's a 5.0l, it's a 305 Chevy....
'n Nope, a Gen.II won't fit a 1973, MC-1...

It won't just bolt up to the MC-1 gimbal but you could probably swap out the entire drive, gimbal/transom mount and inner transom plate with the Gen-II stuff.

There would then be the problem of getting the 165 flywheel housing to match up to the GEN-II transom plate (donno if that work)

Why not swap the entire package?

My 165 engine is like new, just the upper I am using now is real noisy with worn and pitted gears. Just saw the 1992 on CL for $500 and was wanted to know if there was a possibility of it fitting. Doesn't look like it will just bolt up easy.
