I blew my lower unit a few weeks ago and I am looking for another. I talked with a couple Yamaha techs and they said they wouldn't bother rebuilding but would rather buy a used. They both said a F225 should fit on to my motor. I found a few used F250 for $2000 1 year warranty. I found an aftermarket SEI 225 for $900 and a 3 year no fault warranty. I would rather go oem but if I could get 3 years for $900, that sounds good to me. If SEI f225 would work then why wouldn't they sell it as 225-250? Thanks for the help

SEI doesn't list HP on their website only if its a 3.1 or 3.2 liter and the length of shaft. You can phone them and ask the difference.

An F225TUR lower unit, absolutely, positively, will plug and play with an F250TUR, if that is the question.

There are several differences between an F200/F225 gear case and an F250 gear case.

Later model F250's use a dual pair or water inlets. Early model F250's used a single pair of water inlets. All F200/F225 lower units use but a single pair of water inlets.

All F250's use a tube to capture water from the trim tab and direct it to the propeller hub for enhanced cooling. The F200/F225 series do not use this tube.

This does not apply to the Offshore series of motors. The model with the 4.2 liter block.

Yes that is my question. Would the water flow be sufficient if I used the 225 lower? Would you trust it or am I looking for trouble? Thanks for the help.

I would do it but that is just me.

Depends on the type of hub installed. A Yamaha pressed in propeller hub might, repeat might, be damaged. Don't think that a Mercury style Flo torq II hub would be. Might also depend upon how the motor is run. WOT all the time might result is hotter exhaust gases to the propeller hub.

I rarely run beyond 5000 rpms unless I am running from a storm. Thanks again
