I'm repowering a boat with a blown 60 hp evenrude VRO outboard, and the carbs and primer on it look a lot like the carbs on my 76 70hp rude. Can I replace the jets on the 60hp carbs with the 70 hp jets and use the 60hp carbs on my old rude? I wish the powerhead would fit the midsection on the VRO motor, i could lose the CMC unit and got with the T&T of the newer motor (less weight, and better fit)

Without knowing exactly what year the 60 is we're kinda shooting in the dark. However, the carbs will swap. But DO NOT change the jets. Use the carbs as produced.

Thanks for the reply, I just ran outside and looked, the 60hp VRO is an 89 model (CE) I asked about the jets because I haven't looked at the carbs yet on the 60. I still have to get the goahead from the owner before scavaging any parts of the powerhead, I do know he is tossing it, so I will offer to do that for him. Just looking to inmprove the ability to adjust the carbs on my old 76 70hp RUDE. Also using the priminer instead of a choke seems a better way to start

Ok, took the boat out today to field test Walleyehed's suggested setup changes with motor height and got what i was looking for (30mph with gps as 6000rpm on 13 in prop, good hole shot) turned motor off after about a 1 mile run at full throttle and it wouldn't start again. I know that I have great compression, new coils, new power pack, and new trigger, also have rebuilt carbs and link and sync'd (see performance above) however, when this motor runs a while it won't start again. We are fairly sure that the stator is breaking down when it gets hot, so tomorrow will run it on muffs until it gets hot and do stator output tests and pack outputs. I really hope that this is what my problem is, as I have basically replaced everything else (it has all failed within the last year anyways) I just really want this motor to work right for awhile so I can concentrate on fishing instead of working on the boat.
