will a 1971 johnson and a 1974 johnson 50 horse powehead interchange ?

i have a 74 johnson 50 horse 2 cylinder. that needs a piston and rods and crank. i have found a 71 johnson 50 powerhead i was wondering if they will interchange ? i was thinkin a 71 was electric shift. i didnt know if this would make a difference

Only hang-up I can see, after a lot of parts swapping, would be the pivot for the shift arm under the carbs. The '71 crankcase doesn't have the boss for that, although it looks like there might be enough meat there to have one machined into the crankcase, using the '74 as a reference. Wouldn't know for sure unless I had both crankcases right in front of me. The side boss for the throttle/shift linkage should be in the same are and should allow you to add the '74 linkage to the '71 block. Base gaskets are the same, so powerhead should bolt up to the exhaust housing. As I said, the only hang-up would be the crankcase shift arm pivot...
