will a 65HP 4 cyl rotor buton fit a 6 cyl 90hp merc?

G'day, as the title says...
the 65 4 cyl is a 1964 model and the 90 "could be" a 1965 ( not 100% sure of it's age but it's the only 90 l can find in the old clymers manual ) it is sixties though..
would any older merc 6 cyl dizzy fit this 90..if the button swap is no good,

Is your"90" solid sate ignition or points???

that's a good question...shame l don't have an answer for it LOL
its for sale 4 hours away, haven't asked what ignition system it has YET..
just thinking about it at the moment as a possible project donk for an older boat that my son may look at,
still early days..

Here's a page from the manual that shows the 2 point system used in inline 6's from the 50's to mid 60's, this also uses 2 automotive coilsI6-distributor2.jpg. This is the pre Thunderbolt system, but on the early Tbolt system it was used also.If you are going to remove the cap remove the red side terminal first.
The wires screw into the cap so don't pull them.
The 4 cylinder rotor will not fit the Inline 6.

I hope you dont need a rotor like the one used in the magnetos..........They are not to be found..

thanks for the extra info merc850 and rivermouse,
shame the rotors won't swap,
it's starting to be in the too hard basket now, with limited time to do the lot up before moving interstate
much appreciate the help though
