Hello. I have a 85 hp force outboard that is giving me a few problems. Looking through craigslist I found someone with a 125 hp power head for sale that runs good. The year is a 1986, wondering if someone could give me some info as to if that 125 would fit the lower unit on my 85, and any other issues I might face. Thank you very much

It would have been better if you gave the year of both engines.

If both are earlier than 94, then yes, the lower units will swap. However, you must be certain that both engines are the same length; that is, 20 inch or 25 inch.

The models 85 and 125 will swap(just different ratio) when U get into the 120's and 90's they might or might not swap..J

Thankyou, where exactly would I take that measurement from?

You measure from the inside top of the transom clamps to the anit-ventilation/cavitation plate. It may not be exact, but will be close to 20 or 25 inches.
