It depends on the space you have in your current engine bay. I'd say probably, but take some measurements and post some pics to be sure. You'll need a bit of extra length, plus width, and most importantly you'll have to rebuild your engine mounts.
It's not just the gears that are different. With the 260 engine make sure you get everything for the engine including the Y pipe, flywheel housing, etc and check beforehand to see if they fit your existing parts... I don't think they're the same. You'd be much safer getting an entire 260 with the inner and outer transom.
Be aware you're adding weight to the boat in the worst spot, and you'll probably want to shift something forward to compensate if you can.
Again, post some pics and make some measurements of your existing boat, and we can go from there.
