Painting an alminium jon boat with Rust-Oleum. Previously posted about using Brightside but paint, primer and 333 solvent was $400. Rust-Oleum will be about $80.
Question on order of painting gunwales and sides / bottom:
Plan is to sand gunwales, treat with Alumaprep and Alodine, then brush paint gunwales with Rust-Oleum Marine oil based primer for aluminium.
Next step is to flip boat onto carpeted 2x4's and do the same to sides and bottom. Wondering if either Alumaprep or Alodine dripping down onto the primed gunwales will affect the primer? Plan to paint bottom and sides with Rust-Oleum top side paint, flip over, lightly sand primed gunwales and paint.
Anyone see a problem with this method? Anyone know if Alumaprep or Alodine is safe if it drips over primer?
