Will an 89 OMC Cobra outdrive handle a 454?

I am trying to get a powertrain together for an old Donzi 25 ft cruiser. It came with a Chevy 350 and a Cobra outdrive. The outdrive appears in good condition, but the motor is a lost cause.
I also have a carbed 454 (300HP). Will the Cobra handle the torque of the 454? I think the 460 Ford motors always had a King Cobra, but I have no idea what the difference is in the two drives. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gil

OMC actually did have a 7.4 model with the dog-clutch drive in 1989.

But that drive is the same as the one they used behind the 460. Good luck finding one.

I wouldn't put the 454 in front of the smaller models.

Best bet would be selling all your OMC stuff and getting Mercruiser or Volvo.

I couldn't find any Volvo stuff so I bought a complete 454/Bravo III and replaced my 460 KC with the Merc.

Took me a while but I was able to sell just about all of the OMC "stuff" ........all totaled, I recovered about $3500 and I still have 2 OMC SS props and the mounting bracket castings for the alternator, and fuel & oil filters. I'll probably eBay them one of these days.......

You could probably easily sell all your OMC stuff.

Rick

The gear ratio is different.
The flywheel might fit probably not.
Manifolds and pretty much most stuff won't fit.
Don't waste the effort or $$$
