Will an johnson 150 1989 tilt/trim unit work on a 78 evinrude 115

I have a 1978 evinrude. 115 and found a cheap tilt trim unit off a 1989. Johnson 150 . Does anyone know if this will fit my 78 115 has no trim at all.???

Use your model # on ----shop.evinrude.com------If the trim unit on the 78 looks anything like the 89 then it will fit.

Your problem will be electrically. The early unit is a 3-wire motor/system which functions with a special electrical box that mounts under the splashwell of the boat and has a single solenoid in the circuit. The newer unit is a two-wire motor/system. That uses a box which mounts to the exhaust manifold of the powerhead (they are drilled to take the box,) and uses two internal solenoids. Not any electronic compatibility between the two systems when mixing parts between the two systems.

If you got all the electrical system from the '89 and with a little cobbling you could get it to work.

cobbing is whats needed.... I used a 1988 "box" from my 70hp, to run my TH-Marine hydraulic jack plate when the relays went for the second time..... worked great.

Well I can't best the deal even if it's toast I'm gonna try it . He came down to 35 bucks for the unit so I'm gonna get win lose or draw. Thanks I'll let y'all know what happens .

Ok so this guy posted his add for the tilt trim as if it came off a 1989 johnson 150. So I looked all over for a johnson or evinrude that would match the pic but couldn't so I was curious. The only thing I didn't do was look up mercurys. Yep it's a mercury 84 - 91 or something like that. So anyhow not knowing this before I bought it I got home and figured it out. I text this fella my finds and he denied that it wasn't from the johnson 150 until I text him pics of the ones I found. Anyway is it even possible this was on a johnson can they be cobbled to fit and if not I guess I'll fix it and sell it to buy one that's right. I only paid $35 and it's in great shape except the motor is fried

Yeah but a rebuild or new motor and I can get it to someone who needs it and buy the one I need. Besides I drink whiskey

buyer beware.... you are probably on being inconvienced...because you should be able to get your $35 back at some point in time...

but a fried motor....takes it out of the"great shape " catergory....
