I Disconnected the tan wire going to the Port temp and put my Fluke 83 from the tan to ground and Im reading 7.93 Mega Ohms when I disconnect the BIG red Pin Connector going to the Control it goes away. Sense the Tan wire is common to the port starbord and the power pack could this 7.93 mega Ohms be triggering the S.L.O.W. in the pack. I know its not enuff to sound the horn. The blocking diode its good i checked it also.
I havent tried dissconecting while running yet.
Also Does the SLOW drop the same amount of RPM no mater where you are running

Your threads are looking more and more like what I've been posting for the last 2 years. Maybe these 1990 120 loopers are just junk at this point. I hope yours isn't. Good luck, I'll be watching.

Re: Will high resitance to ground activate S.L.O.W.

I ve had this problem since rebuild 3years ago and eventually put a fin on it and let her ride but I hate having less of a motor than I had before. And I have found a few things I had wrong but just not the critical one yet. Im going to try it with the tan wire to the pack unhooked this morning. Any way we are bound to find our problem sooner or later.

The troubleshooting guide says to disconnect the single wire from the temp sensor to the powerpack and run the motor. If the problem disappears, replace the temp sensor.

The blocking diode is supposed to prevent any signal other than the temp sensors from reaching the powerpack. In any event running the motor with the wire disconnected will answer the S.L.O.W. question.

Re: Will high resitance to ground activate S.L.O.W.Answer IS Yes(NAILED IT)

Nailed IT DANG DANG DANG IT Runs great Thanks for catching that on the Tan wires for me EZEKE. Heres the story. I get her to the water and start her up on the trailer Hooked up timing light to # 1 and was seeing # 3 flash ever so often same thing with #2 I was seeing # 4 flash ever so often. Then I figured it out The plug wires were touching each other # 1 and # 3 so it must have been inducing over. Seperated wires and cleared that problem up. Now I checked WOT timing should have been 18 deg BTDC but with stop all the way out as far as it would go Im reading about 16 deg BTDC Im still not sure about that. Any way I disconnect the Tan wire from the pack and take off She gets to 2700 and then 2800 and then 2900 and comes out of the hole I get her at WOT and got it all the way up to 5800 RPM . To double check I hook the tan wire back up and Bam 2700 and thats it want plane off. So I got me a short I got to find now on that tan wire going to the controler.
Thanks for all the help

2. Found recirculation hoses wrong from rebuild ( Fixed)
3. found bad Diaphragm VRO fuel pump (repaired)Probaly caused my meltdown when I had oil injection
4. Pulled and cleand Carbs and checked calibration.
5. Pulled tan wire off pack to eliminate S.L.O.W. Function and found it. Got a short some where on the tan.

I'm gonna try the same thing. Mine sure acts like it's stuck in slow. I've tried 2 power packs and nothing changes.

I have a 1993 175hp that is doing this. I've been troubleshooting from a fuel system problem since this boat has spent a lot of time in storage. I doubt it has been run more than 5 times in as many years. When I took posession it had 22 gal. of two year old gas. I did pump that out and filled up with fresh fuel. Sometimes it runs OK I guess up to 54 MPH (not to it's potential) but then after a few minutes it runs less than 2800 RPM and like it is running on 3 cylinders. I plan to do a carb rebuild and check the usual stuff I guess we'll see what happens.

I would be carefull sounds textbook to what the manual says the S.L.O.W. does when the engine is overheating. Also you need to check your alarm buzzer it may be bad. Belive me it dont take long to gauld a pistion. I still have some other issues besides the S.L.O.W. on the tan wire. You might want to post a topic and get advice from some of the seasoned Techs.
Good Luck
