hi guys, i have a 18', mako marine, bay boat. I currently have a 1984 Evinrude, 140 Hp outboard motor, but it went bad. they're selling me a 1976 Jhonson 200 Hp in good conditions, but i'm concerned with the weight.
will it be too much?, will the back part of the boat will be underwater?, is it legal?
maybe you guys can help me find out the weight of each motor. I'll appreciate it a lot.
Thanks.

if you acceed reccommended HP, not only will insurance
not cover you, but you will be held liable if you
have an accident. (wreckless/intentional)
what's the hull plaque say?

BTF
The 140 comes in at about 310#, while the 200 is about 390#. You would need to find out the Max. recommended HP for your boat before proceeding with the 200HP.

The new 19' 4 " center consoles top out with a 150 hp.I'll stick my neck out and advise that a 200 on an 18 footer is too much motor.

I agree that your insurance would be a problem and you could be held liable (civil) in an accident.

But if it were me I'd do it (assuming the boat could float it and transom was in good shape). But then again I'm the kind of guy that rips the do not remove tags from matresses.

just a note-my friend had a 1974 20' mako center console which he repowered with a 200-this was way too much for this boat-the boat flew (not sure the max hp) im sure that the 200 is too much for your boat.
