Hi I am limited to a 9.9hp on the lakes closest to me. I don't care about speed but want to ask if anyone knows if a Mercury 9.9hp Bigfoot will be able to move a 2004 Tracker Targa 17 Sport that weighs approx. 2265 pounds then add a few people to that? and will it go at least fast enough for trolling?

I was hoping to buy the boat with a 9.9hp bigfoot at first to save money then get 125hp later on for the unlimited hp lakes and bay. As long as it goes fast enough to troll and drive it back on a trailer I will be happy.

Any information you can provide is appreciated!

Thanks

Yes, for what you want it should be fine. I move my 16 ft I/0(1800lbs) with a 4 hp at 3 1/2 mph in choppy water.

Thanks Cobra this has been driving me nutz trying to decide if I want to buy this boat, especially because of its weight and the 9.9hp limit on the lakes I will fish most often during the week.

I didn't doubt the dealer when he said it would only go about 5mph with a few people in it but wanted to see what others would think. I will definately have to watch the weather because it will not get me to the ramp quick that's for sure.

I have a 16.5 Lund (weighs approx. 1500 plus gear fuel 27gal. tank, and people.) I use an 8 HP Merc. to scoot me around. I think you should be fine with a 9.9. I also troll with it just fine. I still have about 1/2 throttle on the engine too (when trolling).
