When you hook up a remote starter switch to the Solenoid, you should be able to crank the engine regardless where the key is set, in fact you can crank it without the key. The ignition is powered when the key is turned to the on/run position. It stays powered when the key is turned to the start position

If you just want to turn the motor over, key is OFF and you use the remote starter to energize the starter. If you want the motor to run, have the key on and turn the motor over by either remote start or other forces to rotate the motor above 60 rpm and it will start.
