Well, it looks like an offshore hull. What sort of voyages do you have in mind? A 23' boat, no matter its design, is marginal for extended offshore cruising, I'd think. I'd want to be inshore enough to run for protected waters in case of heavy weather.

Ah, I see you already have a thread going on this boat, regarding fuel economy. 60 gallon tank? Inshore or coastal waterway only. I don't know what you have in mind, but you need to be within reach of a protected harbor at all times with that small craft, despite its design.

Until you get into the 40+ foot class, with diesel power, and designed to go at displacement speeds, you're not equipped for serious offshore cruises. That's a nice cruiser for inshore use. If you're planning to go to the Bahamas, for example, it's not so nice.

It's best to keep all discussions about a particular boat in one thread. That way, you get a continuum of responses.

TH - I posted on both threads hoping you get the depth of concern over attempting an ocean voyage in a 23 foot boat...here's the problem..its not whether the boat can handle the ocean..its whether or not YOU can handle the ocean, and are proficient enough to deal with whatever may come-up..such as ..what do you do if a exhaust elbow ruptures...what is the first thing to check if the motor suddenly. quits???how to handle quarter seas...throttle control in heavy head-on seas....you see, these things can and do happen, often with no warning. So given that you have only one engine, and I/O's sink like a rock when too much water overwhelms the pump, and limited sea experience, along with limited resources ...stay home.

Your boat call handle Sea up to about 9 feet every 8 seconds but from your questions I would say your are not even close to being ready.

Cruising Speed has nothing to do with the boat and everything to do with the Seas. Some days the best speed is 4 to 5 MPH and other days it could be 30.

You need to know how to handle every type Sea, I feel the most dangerous is a Large Following Sea with Breakers. Too Slow or the wrong angle and your wet or in the water, Too Fast and your Dead. Make one mistake and your whole crew will be hoping the EPIRB works perfect and every one makes it to the life raft.

You need to know how to quarter the sea and still reach your heading.

You need to practice the rule of 1/3 fuel. 1/3 out, 1/3 back and 1/3 in reserve. This is not figured on the nice day you can run at planeing speeds and get 3 miles per gallon. It figured on the day you can not safely make over 5 MPH plowing and must quarter to be safe.

You need a second motor in Big Seas, big enough that you can turn in the wind and seas and maintain your heading.

The Ocean demands Respect and Experience

Start by Taking a US Coast Guard Boating Skills and Seamanship 13 week class.

Start learning on the nice days, and take a experenced skiper with You.
Get a good second power source. Carry a Sea Anchor big enough for a 40 foot boat. Also have a least one regular anchor with enough line to anchor in at least 40 feet of water with a 7 to one scope.

If you do not prepair for the worst then you will some day make the news.

At least all the engine work i can deal with i rebuild the engine myself and all the other work done on it (Not a Mechanic Just with help from this Forum along with a little common sense) ,the boat is very equipt although its still missing a satallite phone ,just wanted to know how farr out i can take her ,and how much of a hammering can this boat take .

It's not the size of the boat it?s the experience of the Captain. There are 5 times more 40 foot boats on the bottom out there than 23 foot boats.;)
