will not fire

I have a 50hp evinrude <br />I told it is around a 1974 motor<br />it seam not to be get gas to the carbater<br />when i put some gas or eather in the in the carb it will fire and run till it use up the fuel.<br />can anyone tell me where to start with this .

Number one, don't use ehter or starting fluid in a 2 cycle engine. It doesn't have any lubrication in it for your engine.<br /><br />What is the history of the motor? Did it just start giving you problems? When was the last time it was running?<br /><br />You can start by pumping the fuel bulb, till firm. Check for obstructions in fuel line. Try using a different gas tank and hose. Borrow one if you can. If it has not been run in a year or more, then get fresh gas and oil.
