I rebuilt the carbs on my 120 looper and now the idle is slow low it wont idle withou throttle , even on the hose. I think it is running VERY rich as there is lots of smoke and black goop dripping of the exhaust. I did a link and sync as per OEM book, have not touched the WOT timming yet but I tried to bring the idle up so it would at least run without throttle by adjusting the idle timing. It is almost at max with little change.

The carbs seem to be spitting fuel and it runs rough as hell. Obviously I have done something wrong with the rebuild but what ????? Anyone help??

Did you completely disassemble the carb, soak everything overnight in carb cleaner, blow out everthing with high pressure compressed air, install the new kit and make the adjustments?

I did dissasemble and soaked. Blew out all holes etc and used new kit. I wonder if the float adjustment is off? I notice that if I pump the bulb it gets hard but then, after a couple of seconds I can pump a little more, not completely soft but not hard. If the floats were not closing the valve would this cause it to run rich?

Absolutely it will run rich if the float won't close the inlet needle and seat.

If the needle is not closing, you should have gas pouring out the carb throat. Did you replace the dime size rubber washer around the pick-up nozzle in the fuel bowl?

R.J, What pick-up nozzle? I don't remember any dime size washer. It's an '86 120 looper.

The pick-up nozzle is the brass tube that extends down into the fuel bowl. Your carb does not have the seperate rubber washer, it is molded right into the fuel bowl gasket.

That's what I thought. If I have screwed up the float level adjustment I think this would cause the running rich do you think I can re-use the bowl gasket or should I get another kit?

You can reuse the bowl gasket. When you hold the carb upside down, the float should be parallel with the carb body.

OK I'll check it tonight when I get home but I think I may have set it so as the float is level with rather than parallel to the carb body (at a slight angle), which of course would be too high.

I Feel so dumb    !!!

The primer solenoid lever was in the manual mode. Put it back to normal and it runs perfect :D :D . Guess I should check everything twice before running off and assuming things .

Thanks all

Glad you got it going. Now go out and enjoy it. It's probably up to 40 degrees by now up there. Just kidding.
