I have a 1987 110 hp Evenrude model #E110tlcdc.
Problem is when I bring the leg of the motor right in (trimmed right down) to pull skiers out the motor will not idle. When the two exhaust ports go under the water the engine quits. If I do not trim it all the way down to the exhaust holes she will idle till the cows come home.Is this normal or is their some way to stop this from happening.

Thanks for any ideas
Glass

Re: will not idle

I you described the situation correct, your exhaust relief ports are submerged? I would think your motor is mounted too low. Either that or there is too much weight in the rear of the boat. Where is the AV plate located (vertically) in relation to the keel of the boat. What kind of boat?

The Anti Ventilation plate is 3/4 inches above the keel of the boat. The hull is a 1987 16 foot fiberglass Glasscon boat. Not to be confused with Glastron hulls. You are right when you say the exhaust relief ports are submergaed but only when I trim the motor right down. Are you saying that the exhaust ports no matter where the trim is set that the ports should not be submerged.

Thanks Glass.

Correct.
They ensure the correct backpressure.
Submerging them makes it harder for the exhaust gas to get out.
Maybe you need to move some weight to the front?

That is my suggestion after seeing that the av plat seem to be in a good location. I would try to move some weight forward. How is the boat arranged (fuel tanks, batteries, seating)?

The boat has two portable 5 gallon fuel tanks under the well also oil resivoir and 1 battery.this only happens when at a idle and motor trimmed right down.If theexhaust ports submerge will it harm motor?
Thanks
