I have a 1974 70hp johnson I started to get it ready for the summer, but it will not stay running,it will only start and stay running if you have the choke open and on fast idle, and then take the fast idle off or close the choke it stalls, it worked great when i put it away in fall,I did put stuff in the gas to keep it from jelling, also I notice it looks like some oil may be coming from were the prop attaches to the lower leg,it may be from when I changed the oil in fall and when I drain it some ran across that area.Any ideas Thanks

Try to remember to put the fuel stabilizer in your fuel whenever you buy it, not after the season. It doesn't make it down the hose to the carbs.

Take the drain plugs out of the carburetors and drain them, then flush some fresh fuel mix through them with your squeeze bulb and put the plugs back in. If that doesn't help, it may be time for a carb rebuild.

I knew when I posted that it was argumentative and I apologize for that. The points were that 1. fuel stabilizer should be added when the fuel is fresh. and 2. Your symptoms point to fouled carburetors.
