When I premix for my rude, I pour the oil into the tank then fill with the correct amount of gas. Then drive to the ramp. Will the oil ever settle out of the gas? Thanks, Rudy.
I remember my Grand dad and my dad allways shaking the gas cans and boat tanks, but with todays oils, It really isnt necesary. I still find myself doing it too. If I premixed, I would tend to use 5 gallon cans an add the oil and fill them up and them dump it in the boat. I just have a hard time thinking about that oil setting in the bottom of the tank hoping that the trailering will mix it up, I guess thats just me though.
On mixing, if you ever used an illegal gas bottle and saw the agitation caused by the gas pump forcing the gas into the container I doubt that you would worry about mixing.

Yeah I know mfgr's say to mix a little and pour it in and then fill her up, but I think that is a lot of work for nothing.

On separation, I have seen some raunchy fuel but never saw the oil separated from the gas once mixed.

Now I have seen dirty gear oil (from old farm tractors) sit for a couple of years and clean up from all the crud (dirt) settling to the bottom. But that doesn't say it's good to use again. There is the sulphuric acid thing from sulphur in the oil and water from the atmosphere.
My 2c,

Mark
