I have an 1986 8hp model # CE8RCDE I use in saltwater. I have found a johnson model # J6RCDE used only in freshwater, the guy admits he ran without oil mix gas.(bad thing) but I'm thinking maybe alot of parts I can use from this motor. Midsection ,tiller ,ect... Without having to look up each part # is there a way to cross check these motors? I heard somewhere the only diff. was carb. and intake. What results when they are run without oil mix gas ? thanks ,John

Many parts will be interchangeable.

Running without oil can kill a two stoke engine But how long did this guy run it? is the power head frozen? Does it have compression?

Check for the vitals

I have a bunch of donated motors that run fine (now) that were given up for dead.

Most had fuel problems or even a low speed needle valve that needed to be lightly seated and turned 1 1/4 turns open to run. I just got a seagull yesterday that is perfect.

Good luck with your decision. Hope this helps.
