I bought a generic rectifier for my '94 88hp Johnson a while back. the yellow wires are the same with
no stripe. I got mixed answers from this site about how it definitely matters where the yellow/grey
wire goes. I think my original rectifier finally gave out(yellow wire output is around 16.5 V and red wire
is at battery voltage 12.6V). Today I changed the rectifier, guessing on the yellow wires. It seems to
be okay(yellow wires 6.5V and red 13.5V). My question is, did I luck out on hooking it up or will
my ignition fry up eventually? I'm going fishing tomorrow will I be stranded? Thanks alot.

RK2Fish..... The newer rectifiers have been supplied with two plain yellow wires instead of one yellow and one yellow/gray.

For awhile, the manufactuers included with the rectifier a notice that it made no difference which yellow wire connected to the stator yellow/gray wire, but for some unknown reason they do not include that notice anymore.

Bottom line.... You've hooked up the rectifier properly regardless of which yellow wire you have connected to the stator yellow/gray wire. Should you encounter electrical problems, rest assured it will not be due to the rectifier installation.
