I am building a 78ETL115, Johnson. I found a good deal on a machined block. Its off a 1977 Evinrude 115. Will this block be the same as mine ? Will everything bolt up ? The seller said , as long as my motor has the small center main bearing, which it does , everything else would be EXACTLY the same. True/False.

Thanks in advance,
KYhunter

Should not be a problem KY. The blocks, for all practical intents and purposes, are the same.

OBJ,
Thank you, for your reply. I found this block in another state , and haven't seen it yet. Its a good deal, and has been bored for the pistons , I am buying with it. I was worried about it bolting up to adapter housing correctly.
Thanks, for alleviating my concerns.

KY Hunter

If the 77 115 block is from a 25" midsection it'll work. If it's from a 20" midsection it won't.

If youre going to reuse your crank you'll need an 85 or 115 block from 1977 25" mid or any 1978 V4 crossflow. The 1978 140 will work too.

If the donor block comes with a crank you can use any V4 crossflow from 1979 & newer.
