Good evening. Tomorrow I am bringing in my outdrive to be identified and purchasing another. What I realized today is that the pieces were never dry fit. At purchase both outdrives were removed and only one in the shed. I have attached two pictures, one of the back of the boat and one of the number one outdrive. Can anyone tell from this weather or not they will mate? Making a mistake here could be costly! Thanks

Re: Will they fit?

What year is that supposed to be? And what are the motors? The experts might be asking for engine and drive serial numbers, as well.

Have not located any number on the outdrive and not ready to sand the paint off. The engines are inline six and the year is unknown also. The block number came back to a 70,s truck.

Guess I wasnt very clear on the question. Can anyone tell from the pictures if the outdrive is going to bolt up. It will cost me a week but maybe next weekend I should bring the outdive to the boat and do a trial fit.

hmmm.

from the looks id say that the gimball assemblys are either alpha 1 drives or mercure 1 drives.

and the second picture looks like an alpha one drive.

on your boat. where your two transom assemblys are there are stickers that say mercury at the top. right below mercury should be a serial number. should start with 0f more then likely.

Re: Will they fit?

The drive in the pic is a pre alpha Merc #1 drive. You can tell pre alpha by the ring on the top cover. alphas are flat. It will bolt on but you must have the right gear ratio. Inline 165 hp merc are 1.65:1. To verify the ratio of your drive remove the top cover and count the teeth on both gears, they should have the same # of teeth. Good luck. Bill

The drive looks like a Model 1, Because of the loop on top. If the gimbels are Alpha 1 the bolt pattern is the same, BUT I don't think it will work. Get the CLYMER Mercruiser Manual B740 it covers 1964-1985. Exellent for this info. Good Luck

I'm sure they will work, but make sure you have the right gear ratio. If your still worried about them fitting measure the length of the drive shaft and check that against what the manual tells you.

Ayuh,..

With the extremely limited Info you're providing,...

Yes,.. They should Fit...
If they are the 1.65:1 ratio,+ they have the shorter 8" input shafts....

That is a Mod.1 drive....
Alpha 1s should Also bolt on,+ run just Fine...
But, again you'll need the shorter 8" input shafts,+ of course the 1.65:1 gear ratios...

Re: Will they fit?

Thank you all for the information given. It is unfortanate that many of the answers passed with the last owner. My plan is to bring the outdrive in today and slow down enough to bring him the boat. They can align the gimble and hang the outdrives. T minus 57 days.
