Will this control box work for me?

A friend has a 2001 50hp Mercury Controls he will sell me cheap if they will fit my 1985 35hp Mercury.

Will they interchange or fit? If so, is there any modifications needed?

Also WHERE can I go to find out for any parts I need in reference to interchanging etc? I know how to look the parts up but I have not been able to figure out where to find if this year will fit with another year type of thing. Is there such a website that can help with that issue?
