Will this Lower Unit Fit my Engine?

A Quick Question guys.<br /><br />I have a 1987 85HP Force Outboard. The current gearcase is a #3 according to the manual.<br /><br />They mark 85HP's a 3.<br /><br />I have another gearcase that I purchased off e-bay.<br /><br />It is a #4. According the the manual it is for a 125HP.<br /><br />The gearcases look identical and the manual references the same diagram for both.<br /><br />The only difference according to the manual is that the gear ratio is different.<br /><br />Can I use this #4 gearcase on my 85HP Force instead of a #3?<br /><br />The gearcase reference # is stampled on the gearbox between the vent and fill screw.

You can use the case but unfortunately the gears inside are of a different ratio.<br /><br />So you will be down on power.<br /><br />TMD
