will this lower unit fit?????????

Ive got a 1988 evinrude 150xp, i have a chance to buy a lower unit from a 1990 johnson 200hp for a good price, just to have as a spare. thats all i know about the motor is the year and size till after xmas...,,does anyone know it the lower unit will fit my motor?? Thanks

Get the model #'s off of both motors, go to shop.evinrude.com and compare #'s.

No, it won't fit. The 150 is a crossflow and the 200 is a looper. The LU gears and case are the same, but the driveshafts are designed differently, and are different lengths. The shift rods are different, but can easily be changed. If you want to change the driveshaft, that is major work.

It will fit as driveshafts are the same (394615) on 4 bolt carrier, only difference is shift shafts.

So it will fit? Do i swap the shift shafts, or is their a particular shaft i need to purchase?

I will defer to Fazt.....if he says it will fit, it will.

What about the oring at the DS top? Looper has it internal to the crank end, crossflow has it around the top of the shaft.
That's what I was thinking about....

1991 and earlier use a short crank stub as it same design as crossflow, 1992 and newer the crank stub is longer and require a 1/4 shorter driveshaft.

just swap shift shafts and set at correct height....
