Will trolling at idle hurt my 40HP Lark?

I have a 1960 Lark II, completely redone. Runs tip top.
I troll for lakers all day. It idles like a champ with only a sputter once in a while. I do shut down for shore lunch, and will run it up changing locations. Will extended idle hurt my motor?

i don't see why it would as long as your carb is set all right. i have a '67 33hp that I troll with and run no wake more often than WOT or cruise. The only potential issue I can see with running at idle for so long is the potential to foul the plugs. But I'm no expert so others can chime in.

It shouldn't hurt, and I see you run it up (i.e., high speed trip). My experience with my 40 hp has been great, trolling for up to 4 hours straight at times. Fortunately, I have a high-speed run back to the ramp. Otherwise, I would have a good excuse to just go for a boat ride anyway.:p

Thanks!
I do carry extra plugs, and clean the ones in it after a trip.
I do make sure it isn't to lean, and keep monitoring the temp.
Happy motoring!
