the best way is with a self draining anchor locker, and never touch the rope, or it will tangle going out.

They make mounts that will hold the anchor on the bow rail BUT its not much good if there is nothing built into the deck to hold the chain and line :)

I use the trusty milk crate and carry the anchor forward when i need to use it

depending on how much line you need you can use a 5 gallon bucket, or one of those large plastic lawn tubs, at HD or Lowes. just put a thru fitting and a hose to drain off the water to the bilge. remember you need 7 times the line as the depth of the water.

Bob - A big welcome your way!!

I'm not sure I understand what you want to do but here is my set-up. I have a bow pulpit on my 23' CC. The pulpit has a rather hole in the center for the anchor and a roller for the chain & line. A couple of feet back from that on the deck is the lifting eye that I use to secure the anchor line when it is out. I also have a small snap cleat to secure the anchor chain to when traveling. Aft of that about 6" is a stainless pipe a couple of inches in diameter with a spring loaded cap that I feed the anchor line through to an area under the deck at the bow.

Solittle, i've use my bucket technique, as you mentioned when the is no appropriate place under the bow for the line storage.

redgin5,

...it's in the forward-most part of the hull, under the forward deck.

I haven't a clue to the layout of your boat.

Usually called a "rope locker" that is used to store and attach the end of your "anchor line"...passing up through the rope locker/deck structure by way of a "hawse pipe" as it it labelled in the catalogs. up on deck behind? the hawse pipe is an oversized cleat or "sampson post" which is bolted through the deck with a backer plate under the deck for strength. there are also "anchor chocks" that are made for certain anchors, usually "danforth" style anchors that also attach to the forward deck for secure stowage of the anchor...and other types already mentioned that attach the anchor to your bow rail...as well as "chain locks" to lock the anchor into the pulpit considering that you are using a chain/rope "anchor rode".

If your are using an electric windlass to retrieve the anchor then the "hawse pipe" will accept the incoming "anchor rode" down into the "rope locker".

Enjoy
