need to know if it is easy to install a windless mechanically inclined undecided on vertical or horizontal mount the brand I"m looking at is a lexmar horizon 400g clearance at west marine discoouted 200.00 anybody out ther for some good advice appreciated.........thanks benthooks

i am not and expert but i no that a lot is going to depend on how strong the deck is in that area of your boat.<br /><br /><br />if you give some boat info someone may have done it allready and have feedback<br /><br /><br />tommays

Vertical models are used when the anchor locker is large and deep because the motor is below deck creating a cleaner, smoother look on deck. Horizontal models are used where the locker is smaller. The motor is mounted on deck and is typically bulkier looking than vertical models. I have a horizontal windlass on my 34' Silverton.<br /><br />Installation is straightforward but make sure the wire size is big enough for the footage required (longer runs need bigger wire). You need to determine where the switch(es) will be. Some people like bow and helm controls. I have only an upper helm control and it works well for me.
