Do you computer experts think that is wise to upgrade from windows 7 to 10 while it is free? I now have windows 7 professional installed, will the upgrade be a premium program?

We had another thread on this not long ago.

I am sticking with 7 for as long as I can. I work for a tech company and we are not switching there either if that tells you anything.

I went with the upgrade, and happy I did. At first, when I just upgraded, everything seems a little slower, even thou the reinstall of 7 was done not far prior.. A search revealed may had mention this. Then I did a complete reinstall of 10 ( once you upgrade, you are licensed for 10. Buy if you go straight to a new install, it is NOT free. ). Now every thing is fast as it was before. The only annoyance is the forced updates in windows 10.
Did this on 2 machines, and both perform well.

We have 8.1 on both our laptops. Love 8.1, but won't be upgrading any further with windows. I've used 10 on a desktop. Didn't like its intrusive, always tracking, forced updating, Microsoft big brother behavior. Uninstalled it and reinstalled win 8. Much happier now.

We are building a new gaming tower for my son and are looking at other operating systems. Windows 8 will probably be a last resort if we can't settle on something else. Definitely not 10.

I "had" 8.1 on another LT and liked it just fine. Now our new LT came with 10. It is my understanding that 10 is supposed to mimmick 7. If it were me, I would upgrade without hesitation. It's the latest version, how long will 7 be around?

Have not had any issues with the Win 10 upgrades on any of our 6 home computers and most of us run Win 10 at work.

10 is a fair amount faster than 8.1 and they removed a lot of the "metro" junk from it that only makes sense on tablets.

The support for windows 7 will end in 2020, the support for windows 8.1 will end in 2023, windows 10 will end in 2025. Also remember, Microsoft always publishes end of life cycles when it is release to the public, but some of their products they continued to support long past the life cycle dates, XP was way past its life cycle before they finally ended mainstream support.

Just about the time I get an operating system figured out they decide to change it. I'm just not good with change I guess.

As far as me liking 8.1, the reason I do, is I don't run it with the Metro interface, I have installed a program called "Classic Start Menu" which makes it virtually run like win 7, but with the stability of win 8.1's back end.

By that time, I will have retired but my company's engineering group will be all Linux. Anything we sell these days with an embedded OS is going to be Linux instead of Windows. We sell a lot to Apple and they are glad we won't have Windows anymore.

I ran XP on my desk top until two weeks ago. My Tower started overheating and making strange sounds (8 years old) so i replaced it with a new one. Windows 10 is okay after you get use to it. My lap top had Windows 7, i upgraded it a couple months ago to Windows 10. I don't really notice any difference between XP and Windows 10 when i surf the internet :)
