Re: Windows XP Password protect installs?

Good question. No great answers though.

You can look through the internet options in Internet Explorer and disable some things in there.

You can use Firefox instead since it does not support Microsoft's ActiveX controls (which is often exploited to put things on your computer without your permission). You can run as a user with limited privileges but many windows programs want you to be "god" in order to work.

No simple answer, but a combination of those things I suggested is a step in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply....I was kidding when I said they just auto install...the kids do it but nobody admits it...so they can chat with friends instead of doing homework...not to mention all the other stuff they download....is there a way to block any installs with a password? Thanks

Set them up their own login on the computer. Don't set it as a "computer administrator". Password protect your login.

BTW....be prepared for their reaction when they realize they can't install programs etc without you doing it for them. If they get your login and password, they can login as you and install anything, so keep it safe...
