I would suggest everyone consider turning on Automatic Updates. This prevents surprises and the need to manually locate/download all pending updates. There are several modes:<br /><br />1) Automatic - Allows you to choose day and time to update. Then performs automatically.<br /><br />2) Download updates then allows you to choose when to install.<br /><br />3) Notifies you of availibility of updates, but doesn't download or install<br /><br />I have been using option 2) for a year and a half and it has worked very well for me. The service is available for XP, 2000, 2003, '98, ME, 4.0.

I also use option 2. There are updates that will protect your PC from hackers.
