I need some ideas for my windshield. It does not have a middle window....just the walk through opening. I'd like to have something to cover it with for those nasty cold rainy days....

Here are the options I've thought of so far:

1) Simply make a snap in cover of the same material as the bow cover and top.

2) Make a snap in panel out of plexiglass, trimmed with some snap on chrome look egde. This would have snaps all the way around for the bow cover and top.

Anything else I could do? Has anyone seen any thing like this done before?

Re: windshield ideas?

I'd get some U channel aluminum, its sold at the home centers, and frame a piece of plexy to fit that space. Attach a piece of 1x1/8" flat aluminum to the starboard side of the opening so it protrudes 1/2" (for the center to close against), and hinge the center on the other side, and you have a opening windshield. Look at iboats marine windshield hardware and pick up a pair of the thumb latches (black plastic) then attach to the center window frame so it can be latched in the closed position. A couple of rubber bumpers on the outside will keep it from scratching the original window when fully open and it will look OEM.

Everything you should need is available at the home centers, the aluminum, the plexy, and rubber sealer to hold it in. Or stop at the local glass shop and see if they can make one for you.

Mark hit that one right on the nose. It will look almost stock if you follow his idea and it wont be expensive either. Good Luck.

hmmm....that sounds really interesting. I'm going to see if I can find some this stuff. I can throw a rock and hit either Home Depot or Lowes...

Never thought to try it this way. I'll post my results when I look around.

Thanks for the idea, Mark! Looking stock is always the best option!

Don't forget some rubber-strip seal, like the stuff on car doors for a 100% watertight seal. By the way Nice boat !
