I still have the original glass for the boats windshield, but it's very heavy. My thought is to buy replacement polycarbonate sheets. Polycarbonate is very strong and you can add a scratch resistance film for it. I'm trying to reduce weight where I can to accommodate a bigger fuel tank. I'm upgrading to a 31 gal from a 17. That's roughly 120 pounds more of gas. Plus I moved my batteries to the bow which weigh in at 90 lbs. but back to my original thought/question: is polycarbonate a good choice for marine glass replacement?

Thanks,
Tom

If your glass is in good shape, why change? I would stick with the glass. 120 (really more like less a 100# + including the added weight of the new tank) pounds is nothing. Are you approaching the boat's weight limit?

Maybe time to give the boat a good cleaning out of all the accumulated stuff in the lockers. I know I tend to collect and put things in the storage places over the course of the season that I never use. Or need.

Thanks Gents some good things to know. Since I'm taking my boat down to the stringers, I thought this might be a nice upgrade when I finally finished. In addition to what you said there is the cost. Polycarb will run me sound $500. Thanks for the input, I'll stick with glass.

Thanks again,
Tom
