wine drinkers? Found a really good white wine :)

Actually son and I were grocery shopping Friday and he wanted to pick out a new one for me to try Is called Sebeka a South African 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, crisp, fresh and a bit fruity, with a Cheetah on label, boy it was good! Son(9.5) tries to pick a new one every now and then for his old man.

south africa and the auzzies do too....

if you can ever get some bc wine called summer hill.....the gaverst....and the erinfeltser....are top notch....won awards all over the planet......

the owner of the winery is a bit of a new ager....so the wine is brewed in a pyramid !....

just a quick short story.....he brewed up some sparkeling wine....and took it to france to a tasting competetion.....

the criteria for the champaigns was ...."brewed in the traditional way"...(nothing about the grapes coming from the champaign valley)....

he went up against all the best in a blind taste test...and won......the brewers of champaigns were pizzed and cryed foul cause the grapes didnt come from the champaign valley.......he (the owner of summerhill) quoted them the rules........so the judges....(bowing to the rules and still not wanting to give the coveted title to a non champaign grape wine)....blind taste tested again........

Quite a coincidence as my wife went to a country fair today and just walked in with a bottle of GOLDEN SCUPPERNONG wine made right here in the hills of north carolina. I dont drink but plan to sample this special wine and see what happins. You can read about the winery at woodmillwinery.com

I like that wine with the Cheetah on it as well...

One of my favorite "everyday" wines is the Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc, inexpensive and very tasty.

If you are into Sauvignon Blancs try any from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Not the cheapest, but very consistent and what I judge all SBs from. Crisp, with a little spice and some citrus. Learned this from my snotty, snooty boss, but the SOB was right . . .

I'll be looking for the Sebreka and I Hope I can find ooops' Champagne . . . Another decent SB is Las Brisas from Spain

If you are lucky enough to be in the area, check it out. If not, order a samplier (Kennel Pack - Mutt) and enjoy. The wines they label as sweet definately are - good with chocolate cake.

Nothing against international wineries, but there are outstanding wine regions throughout the US. Maybe we could explore these a bit before sending our $ out of country?

Anyone in the great lakes regions know of good wineries up there?

these days I kind of mnoved away from Cab Sav which I used to drink all the time, more so white, chardonnay and SB. The sweeter(Pinot Griigo) are just a bit too sweet for me

Oh Lordy, ok got the Sebeka Cab Pinotage, a Cab mix, holy shneikies! GOOD, espec. with a beef dinner!
