I have an 18' boat with a 90HP 2-stroke outboard and 4stroke kicker that I winterize every year. I have always kept the boat winterized from around the time we get our first freeze to the the usual last freeze....Maybe this is not necessarry?...

If there is a nice March day and I decide to fire up the motors and go fishing, I won't hurt the motor if the next weekend is 20 degrees outside right? I know I just have to make sure the water is out of the leg...and being that it is at the end of the season, refogging won't be necessarry. Thoughts?

I am getting inpatient and the temp cracked 50 today!

I don't think it would be an issue with an outboard..

Go fishing!!8)

I have already been out "just riding" with the wife twice in the last month. Weather was very nice. Last week it was 70 and partly cloudy. It was shorts weather.

Another reason my next boat will have a Rude hanging on the back....no more draining the block and manifolds....

Re: Winter Boating

I have done a lot of sailboat raceing in early spring and late fall (the winds is the best )

It taught me to have a profound respect for cold water and generally do not boat until I stand a chance of making it a few minutes in the water

I can tell you right now somebody is going to die on Long Island this spring because they went out unprepared got wet and cold and that was that

This happens every year without fail

Re: Winter Boating

You know tom, I used to striper fish in the winter months on Lake Texoma. But one of those cold days you are talking about I was thinking just that........how long would I last in the water if I had an accident. It didn't deter me from fishing but I did keep safety in mind.

What about that LINY club that goes swimming every New Year's Day.....do they "loose" many members at their outing? 8)
