Hopefully I'm just overthinking this. I have a mercruiser 502 MPI. I drained both block and both manifold plugs. Also drained plug in cooler that is down low on port side. Pulled big hose off circ pump. Also pulled intake hose from engine mounted water pump. Got to thinking...... I assumed the outlet hose from the engine mounted water pump should back drain thru the pump. QUESTION Should I habe also pulled water pump outlet hose? Would the pump have stopped the outlet hose from draining? The reason I ask is the boat is stored 100 miles from here. Do I need to go back and pull the out hose from the engine driven water pumP?

Re: Winter draining 502

Even though it's safer to pull the pump outlet hose off for peace of mind, You should be ok with leaving it hooked up, Because that hose goes to the power steering cooler that you drained.

Also usually when you pull the inlet hose off some water comes out of the pump side as well so you should be good.
