Ok the boat is im my parrents garage. Im going to start ripping apart and all. Im going to open up the closed bow. Im going to pull up the floor and and most likely replace foam. Its going to be a different boat when im done. Im going to post pics on here as its going to be the slow season of iboats. Ill give about 5 per post. Its getting cold but i think i can stay warm in the garage and do all the work. My first step is going to be splitting the upper and lower. Then im going to laminate some ply to reinforce the bow when i open it. going to make it a fishing style boat. You can see what ive done so far on the shareaproject page. But i cannon wait for the rebuild. It starts soon.........

Re: winter project

I've done a couple of restores like your talking about doing. First is saftey, buy a good respirator and protect your lungs, eyes and skin. Try to do your cutting fiberglass in the open. You will be suprised how fast it can build up in the air around you in a closed space. Not to mention it will be on and in everything in there.
Now if you are considering a center console your washboards and bow cap are already there. Start just behind the windshield follow washboards around to the point where you want your bow cap to begin square it off, cut,put in your plywood bulkhead saved hours of work and you wouldn't have to remove top at all and it would be good and strong.
Look at the post I put in recently (89 maxum center console) and you'll be able see the ton of work that I will have to do. It's not the easiest way to do the job. If I hadn't already converted to a bowrider before hand I would have went the route I'm describing to you.
The console is really not to bad to install if you can fish your wiring and such under the floor. If you have to cut the floor and box it in, thats a different story, will be some work, but you've saved all the other work.I'm not insisting you do it this way, just offering a sugestion.
Also I used a jigsaw with large teeth. will dull fairly fast, but you shouldbe able to cut most of what you would need to cut with a couple of blades. Makes bigger chunks, keeps the dust down. Hope this helps!

Re: winter project

this is maxum's thread with pics: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=228728

i'm re-doing my deck currently and i had to split the top off to get under the open bow. if you can skip that, i would. also, the way maxum kept that strip of fiberglass all the way around the hull is very important. without it, the hull is way too wobbly.

think out the bulkheads you'll be building, best would be to use them for live wells, storage n stuff.

Re: winter project

I have to get the top off i got to be able to open up the bow and also support the sides of the hull. I am going to have to glass some supports like his along both sides of the v on the inside. Ill use ply prob. but i have to remove the top to pour my seacast into the transom easier also. Im going to do it all at the same time. Im really thinking about the center console idea. If so i definately have to remove the top, modify it a good bit. I have a lot or reinforcing to do. The hull wont be wobbly when im done. Its going to be like a rock. The bow part of the top is loose on there right now anyways and there is no wobble. The floor in the bow goes up under the closed bow part. There is some stringers that are pretty tall under there that connect to buldheads under the floor.
